Maiden Voyage to Alaska


From Ohio through the St. Lawrence Seaway aboard the Sycamore, a new Coast Guard buoy tender destined for Alaska. Who would have ever thought such a destination, a port of call story, would be available for Great Lakes Boating magazine and one of its staff, its publisher, to personally experience.

The USCG Sycamore had set out on its maiden voyage, from Marinette, Wisconsin, where the Marinette Marine Corp., built it, to Cordova, Alaska, where it would be stationed to serve as a buoy tender in that rugged area of the Alaskan coast.  more...
