Pollution traced to dirty two dozen


 Unaware homeowners may be biggest threats to waterways.

Years after high pollution levels closed the Macomb County beaches, investigators have finally scoured the cityscapes and countryside locating many sources of sewage that have fouled Lake St. Clair.

An intense effort to track all the hidden or obscure pipes that spew pollution into the waterways is in its second year with more than 300 miles of rivers and drains walked by investigators. Twenty-four pollution hot spots have been identified and the culprits have been singled out by tracking sewage back through a complex network of drains and sewers.  more...
