End of an era


Since 1975, the crew on the 59-year-old Bramble has been responsible for maintaining more than 200 lights and buoys in the Blue Water Area and beyond, but it will be replaced by a new vessel this summer.Thursday marked the final time the crew would replace winter markers with lighted buoys in the St. Clair River. 

The Bramble is being replaced by the Hollyhock, a technologically superior 225-foot vessel due to dock in Port Huron in October.

The Bramble is set for decommissioning May 22. On Thursday, the crew set the final 10 buoys, working up the river from north of Algonac to Marysville.  more...
