Grand Rapids angler catches 25-pound Chinook on Lake Michigan; Are 30-pounders coming?

large-salmon1.JPGA first-time salmon fisherman caught one of the largest if not the largest Chinook salmon of the year Sunday morning while fishing from a Muskegon-based charter boat on Lake Michigan.

Jeff Smith, 36, of Grand Rapids, reeled in the 25-pound King while fishing with four co-workers and friends on Steelhead Charters out of Pointe Marine in Muskegon. Smith, who has fished for mainly bass on and off for the last 15 years, said he is now hooked on salmon fishing. more...
