Award winner helps to make waters safer


A Battle Creek resident's efforts on the water have earned him recognition on dry land.

Jim Carlin, 54, president and founder of Boaters Against Drunk Driving, will receive the Battle Creek Enquirer's George Award for promoting safe boating nationwide. BADD is a national nonprofit boating safety organization.

Carlin is one of six people receiving a 2002 George Award. The annual awards are given to people responsible for one-time projects or ongoing programs that would not have existed without their efforts -- and who don't wait around for "George" to do it.   more...
