Gaillard qualifies for Olympics


Fort Lauderdale Meg Gaillard clinched an Olympic berth in convincing fashion Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Sailing Trials out of Lauderdale Yacht Club.

Gaillard, 30, of Jamestown, R.I., won two races on a tough ocean course south of Port Everglades Inlet to lock up the Europe class regatta and will represent the United States in Athens, Greece, this summer.

With 13 first-place finishes and a second in 14 races, Gaillard can sit out both of today's races, which would be her two throwouts and finish with 15 points.   more...
