Man-made reef aids spawning fish

Reseachers were able to show off the first success of a project Tuesday to restore spawning habitat in the St. Clair River’s Middle Channel for lake sturgeon and other native fish.“When we began to construct the reefs early this spring, we found sturgeon already starting to spawn,” said Mike Thomas, Michigan Department of Natural Resources fisheries research biologist. “We want to rebuild spawning areas that have been lost on the lower St. Clair River.
