EDITORIAL: Movement grows to stop Chicago threat to lakes and rivers

Cut the one watery link between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River.

More and more people are joining the chorus to close the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

It's a marvelous movement that just might save two of the continent's largest watersheds from each other.

But it's already too late to prevent the spread of the zebra mussel from the Great Lakes into the vast Mississippi watershed.   more...
