Worlds Training and Buddy Melges Challenge

With the Match Racing Worlds quickly approaching (Sept 20-25 in Newport, RI), we’re one week into a month of intense training in preparation for the big event. ]Last week we trained in Sonars with our world championship team of Liz Hall on the bow, Alice Manard trimming jib and calling tactics, and Jenn Chamberlin trimming main and kite.  We had a great USSTAG training camp at the US Sailing Center in Sheboygan with coach Luther Carpenter, American teammate Sally Barkow and Lucy Macgregor’s team from GBR, who are currently ranked #1 in the ISAF rankings.  more...

BOATING SAFETY FOR HUNTERS AND ANGLERS

Transport Canada is reminding hunters and anglers to take extra care while out on our backcountry lakes and rivers this fall. More than 40 per cent of boating deaths in the province involve hunters/anglers. Small boats are prone to swamping and capsizing on remote cold lakes, so boaters should always wear a life-jacket. Transport Canada is working with its partners, such as the police, conservation officers and federal fisheries officers, to ensure hunters and anglers are prepared for safe boating. more...

Light Winds, 3-1, First Day, Buddy Melges Challenge

Racing got underway very early today at the Buddy Melges Challenge, with the first race just after 9am. The temperature was in the low 50's but the wind was steady, blowing around 6kts. We had a great morning with some good racing.  We finished the day 3-1 in our group, and we have two more races tomorrow to finish the round robin off.  more...

After two days and 12 Races Bayview Yacht Club’s leads 24 yacht clubs in The New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup U.S. Qualifying Series, advancing to the championship series among 12 teams for Friday and Saturday.

As of Thursday, Bayview Yacht Club of Detroit was in first-place against 23 other premier yacht clubs invited to participate in the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup qualifying series and advances to the championship series, it was announced Thursday. more

Teens spend week sailing across Lake Michigan

Two Lake County teens returned from a week-long sailing excursion across Lake Michigan just in time for the start of school.

Evelyn Ritter, a 17-year-old senior at Libertyville High School and Jordan Kolpas, a 17-year-old senior at Deerfield High School, arrived at Burnham Harbor in Chicago Aug. 20 after spending a week aboard the schooner Inland Seas sailing across Lake Michigan as part of the Shedd Aquarium's Semester for the Great Lakes Program. more...

Two years ago, Mudge and his wife Joanne sailed from Rochester to the Bahamas and back over 10 months.Aided by technology, some local sailing enthusiasts have made distant ports their destination when leaving Rochester and wandering out onto the lake.
