Second boater dies after late-night accident

A second man has died from injuries suffered in a boating accident that previously claimed the life of one man and critically injured two others.

Samuel "Nash" Collins died Friday at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor.

Mark Jackson, a recent graduate of Oakland University, died immediately when the 20-foot Mariah in which he was a passenger struck a dock while traveling at a high rate of speed in darkness in the North Channel near Harsens Island early Wednesday.

Jackson was standing in the back of the boat on the left side and took the full force of the collision, said Lt. William J. Krul of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Division. Collins, whose father owned the boat, was the driver.   more...
