Annual August River Walk on tap

  #
The Clinton River Watershed Council staff and naturalist Julie Champion will be joined by other enthusiasts of the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair on Saturday for the annual August River Walk.

The event is held at the Metro Beach Metropark Nature Center in Harrison Township, which is filled with the sights and sounds of summertime, said Heather Van Den Berg of the Clinton River Watershed Council.

Those attending Saturday's event will learn more about the coastal ecology and the freshwater marshes of Lake St. Clair, she said.

Participants will also be able to view herons and egrets, as well as migrating hummingbirds.

"Wetlands are such a vital nursery for the spawning fish and a refuge for the waterfowl that pass through," said Van Den Berg, who urged participants to bring the entire family and pack a lunch.

Besides the nature walk, there is an array of other activities at Metro Beach to enjoy on Saturday, including canoeing, golf, day sailing, trackless train, swimming, playground, and other recreational activities.
