Drawing a bead on cormorants

To Ohio fishermen Tom Mayher and Ray Halter, the double-crested cormorant is the foulest of fowl.

They say the glossy black bird with two tufts of feathers on its head gorges itself on fish from Lake Erie and local inland waterways and kills trees anywhere it nests with its acidic droppings. Halter and Mayher, who chairs the North Coast Fishing Council, say they're hopeful new action by the federal government will reduce the numbers of the birds, who compete for food with native sport fish.  more...
