If locks and dams in Chicago-area waterways are closed to keep Asian carp from Lake Michigan where it could devastate the Great Lakes' ecology, there would be an immediate effect on local boating businesses and could forever change a way of life on inland rivers and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
"If they close the river, my business would die," said Anthony Discepolo, 52, owner of A-1 Millennium Marina, which sits on the Little Calumet River in Burnham. "The impact would be horrendous. Boaters don't want to be restricted to just the river." more...
