The Crescent Sailing Association announced that it has launched a series of free “Learn to Sail” on-line shore classes. According to Jerry McNamara, Director of Crescent’s Adult Learn to Sail Program, the video sessions are designed to help people interested in sailing cover much of the basic theory and practical knowledge that is required in Crescent’s Adult Learn-to-Sail program. “It can take some time for the principles and terminology to really sink in”, said McNamara, “and as we have continued to refine our program over many years, we saw the opportunity to use internet technology as a prelude to our shore class and on-the-water training. Prospective and registered students can learn at their own pace and then join us for hands-on education in May”.
The classes are posted on the Crescent Sail Yacht Club web site at www.crescentsail.com along with information on the Adult Learn-to-Sail program. “People interested in the classes should register early as we have had wait-lists for the past several years and the 2009 class is filling quickly”, notes McNamara, “and with the very low cost per hour of enjoyment that sailing offers, we expect interest for this summer to be higher than ever. Sailing, especially in a cooperative club setting like Crescent, fits really well with the current desire for financially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and physically healthy activities.”
The Crescent Sail Yacht Club is located at 276 Lakeshore Road in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Adult Learn-to-Sail classes are offered through the Crescent Sailing Association, Crescent’s non-profit educational organization, and consist of shore sessions in May followed by 12 weeks of on-the-water training June through August. Classes meet once a week and are available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. Total course fee is $450. Extra sessions and racing opportunities are available Saturday and Sunday mornings. Early registration is encouraged as classes fill quickly. More information is available on the Crescent web site www.crescentsail.com or by emailing email@example.com .
