Mercyhurst professor to expand testing of Presque Isle water- Editor H2ONotes [ 1/19/2010 - 18:02 ] # The swimming advisories issued each summer at Presque Isle State Park are triggered in part by storms, which bring more surface water -- and more E. coli bacteria -- into Lake Erie.
Other chemicals wash in with it. An ongoing study by Steve Mauro, an assistant professor of biology at Mercyhurst College, has found additional problems in the water off Presque Isle.
