Late-summer fun a short drive away in Lake Geneva

Last spring, my wife, Cheryl, and I talked with friends about taking in the Lake Geneva Cruise Line's Black Point Mansion trip

What a great day to be in Lake Geneva. Scores of people were swimming and sunbathing at Riviera Beach. We saw people boating, fishing, parasailing and people-watching. Folks were shopping at Maxwell Street Days or eating at the many fine restaurants downtown. We arrived before noon and hoped to find a parking spot downtown, then had to double back and were happy to grab the last open metered spot adjacent to Library Park. more...

LIGHTHOUSE: Mark Brochu, director of St. Clair County's Parks and Recreation Department, talks about the renovations needed to the tower at the Fort Gratiot Light Station in Port Huron.Just before a walk through the Fort Gratiot Light Station grounds, Mark Brochu grabbed a chain and wrapped it around a gate to block the entrance. MNR confirms 12 offshore wind applications in Lake Huron

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has confirmed that three companies have issued 12 offshore wind power project applications within Lake Huron. Of the applications, eight are "in the area near Kincardine and Goderich and near Port Elgin at MacGregor Point," said Jolanta Kowalski, senior media relations officer for the MNR in a telephone interview Wednesday. The couple accepted an offer during Fairport Canal Days for a tour of one boat, which featured a kitchen and bedroom. Chinese delegation tours Lake Michigan coast

A group of 12 businessmen, government officials and environmental advocates from China gathered at Portage Public Marina on Tuesday after a tour of the Lake Michigan coastline.
