Boat sales are staying afloat

  #

This isn't the best of times to be selling boats in southeast Michigan. The economy has been in the doldrums, and fuel prices are high.

Boat sales generally were flat last year, but that was a major achievement in a business that depends on discretionary income. Boat dealers at least can give thanks that they weren't selling cars.

"We didn't set the world on fire, but we were OK," said Van Snider, director of the Michigan Boating Industries Association. "Overall, boats 30 feet and smaller were down a little, and so were the really big boats. But the 32- to 42-foot range held their own. And PWCs" -- personal watercraft -- "were up 11%. They've really gotten their act together.   more...

KIDS LOVE THE BOAT SHOW!
Imagine the wide eyes as you enter a hall filled with twinkling lights and bright shinny boats - some which seem bigger than your own house.   Kids love to see, touch and climb aboard boats of all kinds, types, and sizes.  Kids can climb onboard a personal watercraft that sits right on the show floor or scale the heights to the top of a cruiser for a birds eye view of the whole show.  Then hop on the swivel chair of a glitzy new bass boat or run from front to back in a spacious deckboat filled with rows and rows of seats.  more...

61st Grand Rapids boat show drops anchor next week

  #
By Howard Meyerson
Press Outdoors Editor

At 38 feet, it won't be the longest boat at the 61st annual Grand Rapids Boat Show, but with its Down East styling and more traditional lines, it is likely to be the saltiest.

After Nearly Ten Years, The Sailboats Are Back at the Detroit Boat Show

  #

LIVONIA, Mich, January 6, 2006  –   Boat show management is very pleased to announce that after a nearly ten year hiatus, the Detroit Boat Show will again have sailboats on display.  The 2006 premier showing of a Beneteau 343, a Beneteau 323, an Edgewater 228 and a 17 foot Hunter will be on display and for sale during the show’s 9-day run at Cobo Center, February 18 – 26, 2006.
Many sailboat exhibitors had chosen to display exclusively at regional sailboat shows.  Many have come to realize that not all sailing enthusiasts travel to these shows in Chicago and Baltimore, creating an unmet demand to view sailboats at the Detroit Boat Show.  “Every year we get show-goers asking us why they see no sailboats on the show floor, said show manager Van Snider.  “We are extremely pleased to be able to say we have a range of power and limited sail boats represented in 2006.”   more...
