Big Bay de Noc and Little Bay de Noc are new waters for the PWT. With a well-deserved reputation for big walleyes in spring, summer, fall and winter, the fishing options are endless. Some pros and their amateur partners will fish jigs and spoons near weeds. Others will troll reefs and open-water with crankbaits and spinners. The miles and miles of scenic shoreline, combined with a strong fishery, make this Upper Peninsula community a "Must Fish" spot for walleye anglers. Do it with the pros, learn the ropes, then return with friends and family.   more...

Classic ships stop in Algonac

  #

The tall ships visited the area again last Monday. Six of them stopped in Algonac, two briefly and four spent the night.

Europa, Serenity, Mist of Avalon and Apple Dore IV were met with many who drove great distances to see these beautiful examples of yesterday's ship building. Most got a ships tour even though threatening weather was in the area with a few hard rain showers thrown in.   more...

Rain can't dampen Bayfest spirit

  #

PhotoSARNIA -- Despite a rain storm, Kelly Wright, 20, of Clyde Township was having a great time with her front-row view. Thursday during the opening night of Sarnia Bayfest. That was until Sum 41 started playing and the crowd surged forward.

"It's been all right until my ribs got broken," Wright joked, her chest pressed against a metal barricade separating the crowd from the stage.

Still, Wright said, "once (blink-182) comes on, it will be worth it."

More than 19,000 music fans packed Centennial Park for the annual outdoor rock festival. Sum 41 took the stage shortly after 8 p.m., and a set from blink-182 kept the concert rocking until nearly 11 p.m.    more...

Lake Superior Day promotes protection of the big lake

  #

Lake Superior Day is July 20.

While most folks who live near the great lake might consider every day to be Lake Superior Day, Pukaskwa National Park in Heron Bay, Ontario has partnered with Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Marquette, Mich. to devote a special day to celebrate the lake.

They have set aside this day since 1992 to remind people who love Lake Superior to help maintain it as one of the cleanest lakes in the world.   more...

Classic cars cruise Port Huron streets

  #

Photo

If anyone forgot that Port Huron is just an hour from the Motor City, they likely remembered Friday night. In fact, with about 450 classic and souped-up cars and trucks rolling through the city's downtown, spectators might have dubbed Port Huron itself the Motor City. Though rain clouds threatened to soak the annual Antique & Classic Auto Parade, the sky cleared, hundreds of watchers came out and horsepower got its way. The parade kicked off the Port Huron Classic Auto Weekend.  more...

H2ONotes Event Alert!

  #
We here at H2ONotes are always looking out for our loyal subscribers.  We are sending this special issue to let you know about an event this Thursday night that you simply won't want to miss! I am sure that you and 100,000 of your closest friends all know about Boat Night in Port Huron this Friday, but did you know there is a much more relaxing way to kick back and join the fun?  There is a way to see the boats, listen to the music and feel connected to the race without braving the crowds on Friday night.

On Thursday July 18th, One Night BEFORE Boat Night, the Port Huron Yacht club is opening its doors to the public for a Yacht Racing Celebration.  There will be a live blues band, chicken and hotdogs on the grill, the Foster's mechanical surfboard and, of course, lots of boats arriving for the start of the race.  They'll start the barbeque at 5pm and the party will go until...uh...whenever.  This is a family event so you'll be ok bringing the kids along!

This is really a neat opportunity to check out at the Port Huron Yacht Club.  If you try to get in there on Friday, you'll pay a cover charge, must be 21 to enter and must be sponsored by a member.

Here is map for getting there!

Fly Fishing

Flyfishing

Few events at ESPN's Great Outdoor Games combine strategy and finesse like the Fly Fishing competition.

The Games are one of the few venues where competition is introduced into the sport of fly fishing, but the results are exciting. The 12 best fly anglers in the world compete on their own stretch of the beautiful Truckee River with the goal of landing the longest trout they can find. There are two flights of anglers — morning and late afternoon. The anglers can land as many trout as possible in a three-hour period. The catch is that they can only submit one fish as their official fish. That's where the strategy becomes a factor. If an angler catches a 15-inch rainbow trout and he has two hours left to fish, does he return that 15-inch fish to the water and risk not catching a larger fish?  more...
