Win trip to Mackinac

Take a walk at Metro Beach Metropark in Harrison Township this summer and have a chance to win a trip to Mackinac Island in the "Walk Michigan" program this summer.

All walks will start at noon at the beach shop (near the pool) on the following Saturdays: June 7, June 14, June 21, July 5, July 12, July 19 and July 26.

Participants in the Metro Beach Walk Michigan events receive a registration card with a chance to win a trip to Mackinac Island on Labor Day Weekend, and walk the bridge with the Governor and several thousand other enthusiasts.

Healthier Macomb Fitness Council is providing the Mackinac Island trip offered at Metro Beach, which is part of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness Health and Sports, and the Michigan Fitness Foundation.

The Michigan recreation and park Association created "Walk Michigan" in 1985 to provide Michiganians with opportunities to improve health and fitness while encouraging them to enjoy recreational facilities and park resources in their communities.

Turnaround of rivers is cause for celebration

  #
Saturday is River Day for the Clinton River and Rouge rivers, a celebration of what these rivers have become.

There are dozens of activities planned throughout the metro area. Some are oriented toward the environment or education, such as riverbank cleanups or tours of fish hatcheries or wastewater treatment plants.

Others are just plain fun, like bike tours and a free barbecue. General Motors is providing 1,200 free T-shirts for participants on the Clinton River.   more...

Nasty weather sinks ceremony to greet state's flagship schooner

Wisconsin's flagship schooner, the Denis Sullivan, returned home this weekend, greeted by gusty winds and 10-foot waves but not many fans.

Powerboats to try for speed record on Muskegon Lake

Third Annual Lake St. Clair Offshore Challenge

More than 100 performance boats watched by more than 10,000 people will take part in the Third Annual Lake St. Clair Offshore Challenge on June 27-29.

The offshore race will be the fastest motorsports event on Lake St. Clair, organizers said.

Tall Ships lineup expected to be bigger than ever

Low lake levels put tall ship tour in deep water

Lower water levels for Lake Erie and silt buildup in the Maumee River are creating potential trouble for tall ships docking in Toledo during an Ohio Bicentennial Tour.

Several of the 20-plus ships expected to parade up the Maumee on July 16 had been scheduled to dock next to Promenade Park, but recent soundings have revealed that the water is too shallow for them there, said Kelly Rivera, local coordinator for the Huntington Tall Ships Festival.  more...

Metro Beach Boatshow - May 15-18

As a leading boat show in the vast Midwestern market, Boat Show USA invites you to come view more than 1,000 boats of all sizes and shapes that are on display with 400 of the larger boats shown at docks in the water. These boats, power and sail, range up to seventy feet in length and can cost several million dollars. The majority of the boats shown in the water are between seven and forty-five feet in length.
