U.S. Coast Guard to conduct survival training in West Bay

Flight crews from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City will be conducting survival training at Bryant Park on West Grand Traverse Bay at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2008.

Pointe Mouillee Festival benefits wildlife, wetlands

The 61st annual Pointe Mouillee Waterfowl Festival is set for Saturday and Sunday at Pointe Mouillee State Game Area east of I-75 at Rockwood, Mich., northeast of Monroe.

Events will kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday and run through 5 p.m. Sunday, including the 61st Michigan Duck Hunters Tournament, sponsored by Cabela’s. Lunch and fireworks cruises are scheduled in Chicago

Earth Voyager Tour: Celebrated Ship Draws Attention to Great Lakes Health

The Earth Voyager -- the fastest sailing vessel on the Great Lakes – drew a crowd of nearly 70 when it arrived in Milwaukee Friday during a 13 city-tour launched to raise awareness about the need to restore the lakes.

Trio of tall ships will recall bygone era

  #
The Twin Ports will be treated this week to a spectacle not seen in decades — three stately tall ships sailing into harbor.

“You would probably have to go back to the late 1800s or early 1900s before you had a number of tall sailing ships in the harbor at the same time,” said Gene Shaw, director of public relations for Visit Duluth, which is helping sponsor the Duluth Maritime Festival. The three-day festival will feature entertainers, crafts, food and a focus on Duluth’s maritime history. Its centerpiece will be the ships Madeline, Niagara and Pride of Baltimore II.   more...

Aquafest gets under way Thursday

Disneyland for boat lovers is coming to St. Clair Shores on Thursday during the annual Nautical Mile Aquafest on Jefferson Avenue between Nine and 10 Mile roads.

The Nautical Mile Merchants Association is pulling out all the stops for the event that runs from 7 p.m. Thursday until Sunday afternoon, and incorporates live entertainment, plus food and drink specials every night at restaurants including Andiamo, Beach Grill, Fishbone's, Jack's on the Waterfront, Tom's Oyster Bar, Mastro's Ice Cream, Steve's Backroom, the Nautical Deli, Big Boy, and the 18th Street Deli.
